Spreading the Love

At Amanda we strongly believe that all animals are worthy of love, which is why everything that we do is about love; we give it to the cats and dogs in our care, we share it with other people and their cherished furry companions. Our mission to share love and education with people young and old continued last Friday as we traveled to Edwin Markham Middle School in Watts for a career day. It was very exciting to be able to speak with so many young people about the importance of caring for their pets. We talked with the students about their experiences with their own dogs and cats, as well as let them interact with some Veterinary equipment. We’re hopeful that that sparked an interest in the world of Veterinary science, channeling their desires to help animals into a very positive and rewarding career. California is unique in that it has so many resources available for aspiring Veterinarians or Veterinary Technicians; 2 out of the 28 accredited veterinary schools in the US are right here in California! Meaning that students who have a desire to go into the field of animal medicine have a much better opportunity of being successful with such amazing programs so close to home. Our goal of ensuring that all cats and dogs get proper care doesn’t stop in the classroom! We’ve pioneered a program of using a spay/neuter clinic on wheels, our “Spaymobile”, to reach communities that simply do not have access to a local veterinarian. In Watts, for example, there are no Veterinarian offices or clinics; not a single one. Bringing resources...

ASPCA Grants for Amanda

Our Spaymobile has been extra busy these last several months! Thanks to grants from the ASPCA we’ve been able to provide 450 additional spay/neuter surgeries. Our first grant allowed us to purchase a new large capacity autoclave, allowing us to prepare more surgical packs each day resulting in the ability to perform more surgeries in a day. Then, an additional grant for the cost of the surgeries themselves which allowed us to expand our program to very under-served areas outside LA city where free spay/neuter is sparse. We would like to express our thanks to the ASPCA for seeing the “BIG” picture, that abundant spay/neuter service is integral to the mission of lowering the number of dogs and cats entering our shelters and on the streets. We share the ASPCA’s vision that the Unites States is a humane community in which all animals are to be treated with respect and kindness, and we will continue to work towards making this vision a...
