For over 30 years, Amanda has been rescuing dogs and cats from city and country shelters around Los Angeles and finding them loving homes. We are a safe haven for homeless dogs and cats where they receive the care and love they deserve as well as the medical attention so many need.

1. Do I need to make an appointment to visit the Amanda Foundation for adoption?
Yes, appointments are required for all potential adopters. We want to provide you with a personalized experience and ensure that we can match you with the right dog or cat. To schedule an appointment, please contact us directly at 310-278-2935.

 

2. Can I adopt a dog or cat on the same day as my visit?
No, same-day adoptions are not recommended. We want people to go home and "sleep on it. Our goal is to create lasting and successful bonds, and this requires careful consideration and compatibility assessments.

 

3. How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by calling 310-278-2935. If you receive the voicemail, please leave a detailed message with your name, contact number and a good day and time to call you back! Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be happy to assist you in finding a suitable time for your visit.

 

4. Are weekend appointments available?
We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, therefore we can schedule an appointment for any day that fits your schedule, including weekends!

 

5. Do you perform home checks as part of the adoption process?
Yes, we conduct home checks to ensure that the environment is safe and suitable for the dog or cat you wish to adopt. This helps us prepare you and your new furry family member for a happy and successful life together.

 

6. Am I guaranteed to meet the dog or cat I pick out on the “Available Pets” page of the Amanda website?
Some of the pets on our website may have an adoption pending. If your preferred pet is unavailable, don't worry - we'll work with you to find another loving dog or cat that suits your needs.

 

7. Why is the adoption process so thorough?
For Amanda, the adoption process is a thoughtful one because we aim to ensure that our dogs and cats find their forever homes and that both adopters and pets are a good fit for each other. Returning a pet to the rescue can be traumatic for both the pet and the adopters, and we want to minimize that possibility through our due diligence during the adoption process.

 

8. Do you transport dogs to out-of-area adopters?
No, we do not transport dogs to out-of-area adopters. We focus on adoptions in Southern California to ensure that both the adopters and pets can meet in person and develop a strong bond. This approach also prioritizes the safety of our of dogs and cats by avoiding potential risks associated with long-distance transportation.

9. How long does the adoption process take?
Because Amanda is the only rescue in L.A. with a full-services vet hospital, all of our dogs and cats receive a full exam before going to their new home. Because of this, the adoption process can take about one week.
